The Sierra Summer Festival Ensemble Concert presents…

Classical Roots

Traditionally, the Thursday evening ensemble concert has featured the best musicians from the Eastern Sierra Symphony Orchestra, performing in smaller groups and showcased the sections of the orchestra in which they played. This season’s Classical Roots concert will spotlight the Eastern Sierra Strings, led by Associate Conductor Scott Hosfeld, performing the Serenade by Edward Elgar, an Eastern Sierra premiere, Lux Aerterna, for violin solo and strings, composed and performed by our concertmistress, Maria Newman, and the String Symphony in D Major by Felix Mendelssohn. The Eastern Sierra Woodwinds will complete the program with a performance of Serenade No.10 (Grand Partita) for 13 Winds by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

The Eastern Sierra Symphony Orchestra
Bogidar Avramov, Music Director and Conductor
with the Eastern Sierra Community Choir
Stephanie Everson, Choral Director, presents…

Music from Enchanting Lands

The 2011 Sierra Summer Festival will cast its spell as Bogidar Avramov and the Eastern Sierra Symphony Orchestra open the program with the folk-inspired, theatrical Appalachian Spring. The rousing, patriotic anthem, Finlandia, by Jean Sibelius, follows--evoking stormy, romantic Finnish landscapes... Then, it is off to the other end of the world, where you might imagine yourself traveling through vast, windswept plains, In the Steppes of Central Asia, by Alexander Borodin. You will also experience the grandeur of imperial Russia in two excerpts from Borodin’s celebrated opera, Prince Igor--the flamboyant Overture and the mesmerizing Polovtsian Dances. Our own Eastern Sierra Community Choir will add its forces to the orchestra in a powerful finale. Immediately following the Friday evening concert the audience is cordially invited to meet with the musicians at a punch and cookies reception generously hosted by the Mammoth Lakes Women’s Club.
